Ngā Iti Kahurangi Takes Out the Āpōpō Leadership Award for 2026

Torque IP Proud to Be Part of a Winning Programme

The Ministry of Education, supported by Torque IP, has won the Leadership Award at the 2026 Āpōpō Asset Management Excellence Awards for the Ngā Iti Kahurangi Small Schools Upgrade programme!

This award seeks to recognise projects or initiatives that set a leading standard for others to follow, showing outstanding leadership in delivering infrastructure asset management excellence. Āpōpō acknowledged that the Ngā Iti Kahurangi (NIK) programme delivered a step change in how the Ministry plans, prioritises, and invests in property portfolio.

The NIK programme was developed to take the burden of delivering much-needed infrastructure projects off schools, particularly smaller rural schools that often face higher delivery costs and limited resources. Through upgrades to LED lighting, insulation, acoustic treatments, RCD-protected power points, and cushioned carpet, the programme is creating warmer, quieter, and safer learning environments for students across New Zealand.

The award was presented to the Ministry of Education, with Torque IP recognised alongside supporting organisations Logic Group, Programmed Facility Management, Asona, Autex, Esco Industries, Milliken, Signify, Morrison Low, and Nonsuch. The programme owes much of its foundation to its original architect, the late Wayne Tacon. Wayne's approach shaped the culture of the programme from the outset, building trust, clarity, and shared purpose across a complex multi-party delivery model.

Congratulations to the Ministry of Education and the entire NIK delivery team.
